Player Thanks Valve After Its Case Saved Steam Deck from Fire

Jun 24, 2025

"Anything with the Valve logo on it is, to me, a mark of quality."

Companies always promote their stuff as water- and scratch-proof, but getting out of a fire unscathed is something they should be proud of.

A Redditor DJ_O4OTA called their post on the Steam subreddit a "letter from an unlucky, lucky fan." One day, they received a call that their apartment was on fire.

"When I arrived, the place that once held everything I had worked so hard to build over the years was reduced to ashes or rather, to melted plastic, barely recognizable anymore. Everything was gone: my PC, my monitors, my TV."

But one thing stayed untouched: DJ_O4OTA's Steam Deck safely hidden in its case, not bothered by the raging fire a bit.

"Next to the completely melted Blu-ray player, under the shattered TV, in front of what used to be a portable air conditioner, there it was: the Steam Deck, inside its case. I unzipped it, and to my absolute disbelief… the console was intact. Despite the water used by firefighters and the fire that destroyed everything else, the Steam Deck still works!"

Unfortunately, DJ_O4OTA's Steam Controller wasn't as lucky, but still, "anything with the Valve logo on it is, to me, a mark of quality and now, literally fireproof," the unlucky player said.

Now Valve can use this story in its marketing campaigns. But it's best not to test your case in any similar experiments, just saying.
